Unforgettable Family Getaway at Westgate River Ranch

The past year has taught us important life lessons- the need to reconnect with nature and spend time with the family have been some of them.

My family has been part of the Boy Scouts and camping is one of their favorite activities. But this is an adventure that I have tried to be a part of with little success – haha. When we heard about Westgate River Ranch Resort, and their version of Luxury Glamping, I was immediately intrigued. Here we can enjoy the best parts of camping but with an elevated and comfortable experience.

And so an unforgettable weekend began …

The path to a wild paradise is just two hours from our Fort Lauderdale home, at River Ranch in Central Florida. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our tent in a golf car, an amenity that was ours to use the entire weekend to move around the spacious resort.

Our tent looked like a wooden cabin, 4 rocking chairs on the porch, a barrel table, and outside a picnic table and a gas grill.

Upon entering the tent, we were welcomed by the breeze of air conditioning (happiness), and waiting for us on the table was a basketful of snacks and treats, even a smores kit. A king-sized bed, pull out sofa, and luxury bathroom with shower completed the suite-  what more could you ask for?

At nightfall, we had to rest and recharge for a Saturday full of activities, but not before enjoying a bonfire and smores.

We slept very comfortable and mosquitoe-free. We awoke to a beautiful tranquil morning and enjoyed our coffee and breakfast on the porch, delivered by the concierge service.

We began the day with what turned out to be our favorite activity- the swamp buggy ride. 40 minutes of adrenaline and adventure exploring the wild side of Florida. HOW FUN!!! From atop the massive tires and custom-made swamp buggies, we had a perfect elevated view of the scenery- including wild cows and deer. We traveled across rough terrain and swamps, riding with ease over the brush and mud of the ranch’s wooded, picturesque trails.

Our next activity awaited us at the marina, but not before sneaking in a little fishing at the resort’s stocked pond. The airboat swept us across the swamplands, taking in the sights of alligators and flowers.

After an exciting morning we returned to our tent where lunch was waiting for us. After lunch and a change of clothes, we visited the farm area where horses, donkeys, and some talkative geese welcomed us. I really enjoyed seeing the cows and buffalo.

Next we had the pleasure of enjoy a steak and lobster dinner prepared right in front of us, but not until after a hay ride around the property, taking us on an extended tour of the entire property and wilderness. On board we enjoyed hayride games and even a musician.

We made a stop at the Western Store where I chose my hat for the rodeo, the night awaited us! My first time in a rodeo, what a thrill!

The rodeo is a weekly event at River Ranch. 1,200 spectators come from all round the area come to witness trick riding, barrel racing, and bull riding- even tributes to our armed forces.

We had so much fun and highly recommend it. They have many different kinds of accommodations and activities and is an ideal spot for families, couples and celebrations.

The resort offers a varied list of activities including:
